GWALIOR – THE CITY OF THE MOST MYSTERIOUS FORT IN INDIA

Gwalior, located 319 km from Delhi, was the winter capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh. This city surrounded by the industrial and commercial zone of neighbouring district Malanpur, Bhind, Banmor, and Morena. This city is the fort houses dozens of smaller structure water tank, shrines, temples, monuments, stand stone wall painted with bright blue accents and multiple palaces.

There are eleven temples to Gautama Bhudha which are over 50 feet in height and were excavated between the 7th and 14th centuries. The city has many Hindu temples, one pair known as Saas Bahu ka Mandir. The Teli Ka Temple or Oilmas temple was dedicated to Vishnu and Lord Shiva. It is the highest in the fort. In the 15th century, Raja Man Singh Tomer had built Gujari Mahal as a monument of his love for his Gujar Queen. It has a beautiful design with the Blue ceramic tiles at the fort. The other notable structure in the city likes Karan Palace, The Jahangir Mahal and Shaha Jahan Mahal.

The Raja Man Singh Tomer built fort was seated in hilltop 100 meters above the city level. This fort ruled by Rajput’s, Mamluks series, Mughals, Marathas and British. The fort consists of three temples, six palaces and water tank. It is 35 feet high and 2 miles in length. The Gwalior fort is included in top 10 forts in India. There are two gates in the fort, one in the northeast and the other in the southwest. The main entrance gate called by the Elephant and the other gates called by the Budhagarh. This fort witnessed of rule by the Mughals and Marathas captured and lost to the East India Company after that Maratha rule. In 1844, the Maratha Scindia protects the fort for under the rule by British. It is one of the biggest forts in India. The Gujari Mahal has been converted to the museums.

This city was also famous by Rani Lakshmi Bai. The rebellion of 1857, Rani Lakshmi Bai (the queen of Jhansi) came fighting from Jhansi to Gwalior fort. She was intelligent, beautiful, and one of the most dangerous of all Indian female leaders. After struggling against the British, she jumped from the fort on her horse and sacrificed her life. We cannot forget her contribution for India.
