ALLAHABAD – THE CITY OF PRIME MINISTERS

Allahabad, Illahabad, Prayagraj, or Prayag is widely known as the Prime Minister Capital of India because it has produced seven out of fifteen prime ministers since the time of independence. It is the seventh most populous city in Uttar Pradesh and thirty-eighth in India. Allahabad city lies close to the Triveni Sangam (i.e., three-river confluence) – the sangam of the Ganga, Yamuna and Sarasvati rivers. As Kaushambi, it was serving as the capital of Kuru rulers of Hastinapur. The city of Prime Ministers was also a provincial capital in the Mughal Empire during the period of Jahangir. Since then, it has been a cultural, political, and administrative centre of the Doab region.
